October Half Term 2022

We have tried to find all the activities and events taking place across Kent in our fantastic country parks, museums and community spaces. Where there is a charge for the activity, or it needs booking we have tried to ensure this information has been included.     Autumn Crafts

    Moat House Coffee Shop, Rochester, ME1 1RF, from 24th Oct - 28th Oct. Create a beautiful leaf collage for free in a child friendly coffee shop in the heart of Rochester.

    Scarecrow Trail

    Lower Halstow, in association with Lower Halstow PTA, from 21st Oct - 30th Oct . Last year we parked on School Lane, by the Memorial Hall and playground, ME9 7ES. Find all the fanstatic scarecrows placed around the village.

    Monster Mash Half Term Fun

    The Mall, Maidstone, ME15 6AT, from 24th - 30th Oct. The Monster Mash craft bar will be open for business for October half term, as little shoppers are welcome to visit and create all manor of spooktacular things…. All workshops will run 10.30am to 3.30pm

    You might also see family friendly spooky characters around The Mall they are making appearances between 10am and 11am if you find them, they might give you a free spooky treat! Before heading off into the town.

    Maidstone Scarecrow Festival

    Around Maidstone town centre, including The Mall, Lockmeadow, Fremlin Walk and Royal Star Arcade. From 22nd Oct - 29th Oct You can also take part in the Maidstone Scarecrow Festival. Maidstone will be welcoming a host of colourful scarecrows to the town centre. Local schools and community groups have been busy creating scarecrows based on the themes of ‘Maidstone Faces’ or ‘Famous characters from literature’. With prizes to the best school and the best community group but we need your help to decide the winners by voting for their favourites. Which one do you think is best?

    Halloween Fun

    Whitefriars, Canterbury, CT1 2TF, from 25th - 29th Oct. Come and join in the Halloween fun at Whitefriars. We have a Dragon meet & greet on the 25th & 26tb October and Halloween VR ride 25th – 29th October along with FREE arts and crafts during the week. Activities will run from 11am – 4pm in Whitefriars Square. The VR ride is £2.50 per person and suitable for ages 3 and above (under 5s should sit on laps). All other activities are FREE and there is no need to book.

    The Great Coastal Bird Watch

    guided walks with the team from Bird Wise from 23rd - 30th Oct, at various locations, see the poster below. These places are FREE, please make sure you wear weather appropriate footwear and outer clothing.

    Eagle Eyes trail sheet

    Rochester Cathedral, ME1 1SX, from 24th - 28th Oct, from 10 - 4pm. Explore the Cathedral with our Eagle Eyes trail sheet and see what you can spot.

    Message of Peace

    Rochester Cathedral, ME1 1SX, from 24th - 28th Oct, from 10 - 4pm. Leave a message of peace and hope on a paper dove which will become part of a special art installation next Spring.

    A Witch's Curse

    Fright at the Museum Scary Tales

    The Beaney, Canterbury, CT1 2RA, from 1st Oct - 6th Nov. Trail sheets and activity are £5 per child. (please note The Beaney is closed on Mondays, except 24/10 and 31/10).

    Spooktacular Day

    The Barnyard, Swnaley Park BR8 7PW. From 26th Oct - 28th Oct. Create a hand puppet, make a scary mask and get 2 hours of soft play for £11 per child. Booking required

    Half Term Family Fun

    Woodlands Farm, Shooters Hill, Welling, DA16 3RP, on 25th, 26th and 28th Oct. Several family friendly paid for activities taking place at the farm this half term. The farm is FREE to enter, but the activities all carry a charge to help with the cost of he materials and the running of the farm. See the poster for fruther details.

    Ghostly Trail

    Swanley Park, BR8 7PW. From 24th Oct - 30th Oct. Complete the Ghostly trail around the park for £5 per trial sheet, receive a prize on completion.

    Halloween Trail

    Lullingstone Country Park, DA4 0JF, from 22nd Oct - 6th Nov. Follow the trail through the spooky woods and around the park. Trail sheets are £3 each from the Visitors Centre.

    Spooky Halloween Sessions

    Role Play Rascals, Faversham, ME13 8PH, from 24th - 30th Oct. 2 hours of role play fun and a Halloween scavenger hunt await, come in your favourite fancy dress and give us a good scare. £7 per child, and 1 accompanying adult free. Book your places here.

    Haunted House

    Riverside Country Park, ME7 2XH, from 24th Oct - 28th Oct. Search for special keys throughout the haunted house. Suggested age 7+, £3 per child.

    Pumpkin Town

    Betteshanger Country Park, CT14 0BF, from 15th Oct - 30th Oct. We have a traditional Pumpkin Patch where children can pick out a fabulous pumpkin whilst having photos taken amongst our Halloween characters whilst being careful to avoid the spooky creatures hidden amongst the pumpkins! Either take your pumpkin home or carve in our on-site marquee (included in ticket price). Games and amazing Instagram backdrops, Pumpkin Town is set to excite and inspire this Halloween. Tickets for all activities in Pumpkin town are £12 per child, there are reduced rates for younger children. Suitble for 8 years and under. Tickets can be booked here

    The Woodland Scare trail

    Creepy Crafting

    Kent Mining Museum, Betteshanger Park, Deal, CT14 0BF, 24th - 28th Oct. Our crafternoons have gone spooky!     Fungi, Fir Cones and Freaky Creatures

    Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory Trust, CT13 9PF, from 22nd Oct - 28th Oct. £5 for a family trail aroud the centre looking at the flora and fauna. There will be craft activities and refreshments available. Trails open from 10am - 3pm. Booking Here.

    Craft Workshop: Future Superheroes

    Horniman Museum, London, SE23 3PQ, from 24th Oct - 27th Oct, various sessions running from 10:30am to 3:30 pm. Create a superhero of the future this Black History Month, cutting and collaging with recycled materials. This workshop, led by artist Habiba Nabisubi, takes inspiration from traditional African artefacts in the Horniman’s collections, black comic book characters from Habiba’s personal archive, and afrofuturistic artworks from the 1960s onwards.     Storytelling with Mama G

    Halloween Make it! Crafts

    Halloween Trail

    Hall Place and Gardens, DA5 1PQ, from 1st Oct - 31st Oct. Collect a trail sheet from the cafe for £2.50, find all of the spooky characters around the garden and receive a small chocolate prize on completion. Available daily from 10am - 4pm.

    An Amelia Halloween Experience

    The Amelia Scott, TN1 1JN, from 28th Oct - 30th Oct. Follow the scary librarian through the Amelia for some spooky tales before bedtime.

    "Join us for our inaugural Halloween experience at The Amelia Scott: 'Scary Story Time': An Evening of Terrifying Tales for Brave and Foolish Families".

    Illustrated Scarecrow Trail

    King George V Park Sittingbourne, ME10 1QX, from 24th Oct - 31st Oct. Local artist Gemma Jewiss has illustrated lots of beautiful scarecrows for you to find around the park. Collect your trail sheet from King's Cafe for £2 per child. Once completed you can claim you prize. In association with The Oak's Infant School PTA and King's Cafe.

    The Spookiest Riverside

    Parkside Quarter, Rochester, ME1 1PZ, from 24th Oct - 30th Oct. Can you catch all the Ghosts in the Rochester Riverisde area? Call into the Rochester Riverside marketing suite to collect your free trail sheet.

    Halloween Scavenger Hunt

    Whitstable Castle, CT5 2BW from 24th Oct - 27th Oct (11 - 4pm). Collect a trail sheet from the cafe and find all the spooky characters hidden around the Castle grounds, or get stuck into some spooky crafts. Trail sheets are £2 per child, carfts £1 per child.

    Halloween Pumpkin Carving

    Outside Room @ Milton Creek Country Park, ME10 2DE, from 10 am. You will be carving Halloween lanterns from pumpkins. Why not come in fancy dress. Carving kits, templates and pumpkins will be provided for a suggested donation of £5 a pumpkin. All money donated will be going to the Friend fundraising efforts to build a new Community Hub “Space in the Park”. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Booking Required

    Glorious Green Men (and Women)

    Sppoky Slime

    Reculver Country Park, CT6 6SS with HatHats Coffee Reculver from 10am , 12pm or 2pm. Slime is back! Make a pot of Mermaid Glitter, Alien Slime, or whatever your imagination can conjure. This highly popular activity has only 20 places per session, so book quickly to secure your place. We provide all equipment, which means you can leave all the mess with us. £7.50 per child.     Trick or Treat Scare Fest

    Pentagon Shopping Centre, Chatham, ME4 4HY from 11 - 4pm. First job will be to pop to the scare zone by Wilko and create your very own Trick or Treat Goblet. Then it's time to follow the clues around the shops and fill your goblet with sweet treats and stamp your card. Once all the shops are stamped it's back to the Scare Zone for a professional photo and to take part in the Scare & Share competition Gallery. Book your FREE place

    Dragon Meet and Greet

    Broomhill Park, Strood, ME2 3NB, from 10:30 - 12pm. Come along and help Friends of Broomhill Park build bug houses to hide in the park. This is a lovely spot with views out over the Medway River, so bring your lunch and play in the park afterwards.

    Green Gang Den Building

    Gibbins Brook, TN25 6HQ from 2 - 4pm. Build your own den in the woods using the natural materials you find around you. Booking here. Please ensure you dress for the weather and have suitable footwear on.

    Monster with We Are Family

    Folkestone Museum, CT20 1DY, from 11 - 3:30pm. Come and create ghoulish monsters with We Are Family at Folkestone Museum. Activities will be in the learning space (11 - 12:45 pm and 1:30 - 3:30pm). Activities are FREE and suitable for 4-11, younger visitors will need parental assistance. More Information

    Halloween Arts and Crafts Workshop

    County Square Shopping Centre, Ashford, TN23 1YB, from 10am - 3pm. Come and make and create some spooky crafts to take home, while you shop. This event is free.

    Rochester Cathedral, ME1 1SX, from 10:30 - 12:30pm. Have a go at brass rubbings around the Cathedral, £1 per participant, bring your own crayons if you have a favourite colour!

    Half Term Family Fun

    Tyland Barn, ME14 3BD from 10:30 - 12:30pm or 1:30 - 3:30pm. Your ticket includes a campfire session with Kent Wildlife Trust's education team and Halloween inspired craft activities, including making an autumn leaf wreath and a pinecone spider or owl to take home with you. Colouring sheets and pencils will also be available, and you can explore the grounds at Tyland Barn as you please. £10 tickets are for one child and one adult. To help with capacity, any additional adults will require their own ticket for £2. Booking Here

    Autumn Ramble

    Riverside Country Park, Rainham, ME7 2XH, from 10 - 12pm or 1 - 3pm. Come and join the rangers on an autumn ramble to find materials to create a collage. Please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear. Priced at £2 per child, suggested age 5-12 year olds.     Escape the Pit

    at Kent Mining Museum, Betteshanger Park, Deal, from 4 - 6pm. Work as a team of 2 -6. You’re below ground and there's been a roof fall, you and your whole team have run out of batteries in your cap lamps. You’ve got a pro miner up top guiding you back along the underground roadways but you need to work as a team to navigate the treacherous terrain in the pitch black. You’ll be provided with workwear and helmets and guided through the process. After you’ve made it safely to pit top you can sit back with a hot chocolate and marshmallows and recount your daring escape. Please note that all participating adults must have a paid for ticket. Children over 12 can participate without a participating adult but there still needs to be a parent or guardian present.     King's Mile Trick or Treat

    Palace Street, Northgate, Orange Street and more in Canterbury city centre, 2 - 4pm. All Primary aged chidlren (or younger) are invited to put on their scariest costumes and search for shops in the King's Mile displaying trick or treat bags.

    Romney Marsh Visitors Centre, TN28 8AY from 1 - 3pm. Learn more about the marvellous world of British Bats and take part in 3D modelling and decorating bats to take home using a variety of mediums, including sticks, recycled materials, glues, paints, decorative papers and fabrics!     Westgate Towers, Canterbury, CT1 2BZ, from 12 - 4pm. Join the team for Halloween crafts and games in your best costumes. £4 per child.

    Wild Classroom Outdoor Cooking

    HatHats Coffee, Reculver Country Park, CT6 6SS from 10:30am. Join Wild Classroom this autumn half term at Reculver where we will be cooking a spiced squash and charred pepper soup. This warming treat will be the perfect warmer for the shorter days ahead. As ever this is a hands-on educational workshop where the children will do all the cooking over fire! We always aim for our food to be healthy and in most cases vegetarian, and are happy to cater for any dietary requirements by emailing scott@wildclassroom.co.uk.     Sharks Teeth and Fossil Hunting

    Trick or Treat Scarefest

    Priory Shopping Centre, Dartford, from 11 - 4pm. Join us in the Market Place at the Priory on the 29th Sept for our FREE Halloween Party. First job will be to pop to the scare zone bin The Market Place and create your very own Trick or Treat Goblet. Then It's time to follow the clues around the shops and fill your goblet with sweet treats and stamp you card. Once all the shops are stamped it's back to the Scare Zone for a professional photo and to take part in the Scare & Share competition Gallery. Book your spaces here

    Spooky Pottery Painting

    Expression Arts, Canterbury, CT1 2TJ, from 10am - 12pm. Children are welcome to book a space to enjoy Halloween Pottery Painting at our Spooky Halloween Kids Club, suitable for children 5 - 12. Children will select, design and, create a pottery piece from the selection available, pumpkins, bats, witch hats, skulls, and other spooky characters are available. Drinks and Snacks are available as part of the cost. Children might like to come in fancy dress to carry on their Halloween weekend activites.     Escape the Pit

    at Kent Mining Museum, Betteshanger Park, Deal, from 4 - 6pm. Work as a team of 2 -6. You’re below ground and there's been a roof fall, you and your whole team have run out of batteries in your cap lamps. You’ve got a pro miner up top guiding you back along the underground roadways but you need to work as a team to navigate the treacherous terrain in the pitch black. You’ll be provided with workwear and helmets and guided through the process. After you’ve made it safely to pit top you can sit back with a hot chocolate and marshmallows and recount your daring escape. Please note that all participating adults must have a paid for ticket. Children over 12 can participate without a participating adult but there still needs to be a parent or guardian present.     Wild Fang Animal Handling
